The Photo Journal

The Porchlight Photo Journal combines our love for road trips, architecture, neon signs, nature and travel in general. The post-war symbolism of the automobile representing freedom is one that we can still quite easily understand and embrace today. Road trips give us the freedom to take certain exits just cause there might be some good neon hiding behind a diner and they allow us to alter itineraries without a phone call or a middleman. We get to see parts of the country that we'd otherwise fly right over on our way to a major city and for better or worse—get to know our country a bit better. But on the rare occasion due to distance, time, or the obstacle of the ocean, we do fly instead of drive.

While road trips are the base of the Photo Journal, we also love to visit other small businesses and see the spaces in which they work.

What you see here is what we think is worth photographing, what we find beautiful, interesting and worth remembering.
